The Most Reliable and Familiar Type of Home: Bungalows for Sale
in Mississauga
While there have been many trends in
housing in recent years, including the "McMansion,” the "just-big-enough”
movement, the "faux chateau,” the eco-friendly home, and more, many people are
returning to the most reliable and familiar of Canadian homes, the bungalow.
With simple lines and a single storey, the bungalow is a perfect place to raise
a family, or to find respite from the busy world. But what exactly is a
bungalow? Although the word has apparently been in use since 1676, when it was
used to describe houses built in the Bengal style, it seems that "bungalow” can
describe almost any one-storey house. A typical bungalow has a low-pitched
gable roof or a hipped roof, overhanging eaves, and a wide front porch.
Although we may think of a bungalow as economical in size, today’s homes with
that description can be very spacious. With this as a guide, it’s easy to see
that the description "bungalow” can be applied to a wide variety of homes.
Mississauga boasts many different types of bungalows – so you’re sure to find
one that will suit your family perfectly!
The Mississauga Market
Housing markets in the GTA continue to
boom, with many properties sparking bidding wars and selling for over asking
price. The Mississauga Real
Estate Board reports that housing sales hit
a nine-year high in 2016, with nearly 12,000 homes sold. The Board foresees
that trend continuing.
MLS® statistics for Mississauga in January of 2017 indicate that the
average price of a home in the city is $676,175. The previous month saw 552 new
listings, and the median number of days those houses remained on the market is
19. Sales were divided almost equally amongst detached houses, townhouses, and
condos.
